Many volunteers come forward each year to give their vital assistance to the principal parade. Their loyal dedication and commitment is testament to the deep affection that many people feel for the traditional celebration of Shakespeare’s Birthday in Stratford-upon-Avon.

We are enormously grateful to them all for their invaluable support, without which Shakespeare’s Celebrations, as we know them, would simply not be possible.

Marshals: Numerous Marshals return each year to help ensure the smooth running of the parade, assist with press management and safeguard the thousands of people lining the streets to see the spectacle.

Stewards: Local community representatives and members take up the role of Stewards to host the many international representatives and other VIPs to help them join in and enjoy the festivities.

Standard Bearers: Young volunteers from senior schools in the town are assigned to the many flags positions lining the streets, accompany the guests or community representatives in the parade and identify who they are escorting to those watching proceedings.

Administrative Support: Historically all the administrative work is undertaken by officers of the councils but any assistance in helping with the routine admin tasks, which is very time consuming, would be welcomed.
