Shakespeare’s Birthday Lunch

Shakespeare Birthday Lunch – 22 April 2017

The 2017 Shakespeare Birthday Lunch, which is being organised independently, and is not the responsibility of the Town Council, will take place after the celebration parade to Holy Trinity Church.  This year the lunch is being held in the Grand Ballroom at the Crowne Plaza hotel at Bridgefoot.  There is free parking for guests attending the lunch at the hotel.

The event, which takes place on 22 April, will commence with a sparkling wine reception at 12:30pm with the lunch starting at approximately 1:00pm.  The format of the occasion will be very much as in previous years with toasts, speeches and the presentation of the annual Pragnell Shakespeare Award.  The TV journalist, Quentin Willson, will compere the lunch and the Lord Mayor of London will be one of the speakers.

A glass of sparkling wine upon arrival is included in the price.  The reception precedes a three course meal, followed by tea/coffee.  There will be jugs of water on the tables but other drinks may be purchased from the bar, or pre-ordered from the hotel.

Those purchasing tickets will be asked to provide the RSC with their contact details.  These will then be passed to Alan Haigh, the organiser (contact email:, and nearer the time he will contact ticket holders to confirm the names of those attending, obtain seating requests and confirm any dietary requirements.


The Crowne Plaza is offering accommodation at special rates to those attending the lunch and an allocation of rooms is being held until the end of February. The special Bed & Breakfast rates offered are £85.00 single occupancy and £95.00 double occupancy.
